The ELV (End of Life Vehicles) Directive of the European Commission is regularly evaluated. In 2020, the Commission is considering the introduction of a material-specific rate for dismantling and recycling in the End of Life Vehicles Directive. Against this background, the BKV commissioned this literature study taking available statistics into account. As a result, the study first provides an overview of the status quo of the treatment of plastic waste from end-of-life vehicles in Europe, based on an evaluation of the situation in the five Member States Germany, France, the Netherlands, Poland and the United Kingdom. In addition, it assesses the extent to which the technologies used could contribute to meeting recovery rates and how they should be assessed from an LCA perspective.
