The study "Chemical recycling in Germany – current situation in 2024 and forecast until 2030/35" examines the status quo of chemical recycling in Germany and provides an outlook to 2030/35 with regard to technologies capacities, waste / input streams and output. The focus is on the chemical recycling of post-consumer waste containing plastics with additional consideration of the pyrolysis of used tyres.
The results of the study show, that chemical recycling in Germany will develop from the pilot and demonstration stage to commercial and industrial plants. In conclusion, input capacities will rise in the medium, i.e. realistic scenario to around 230 kt in 2030 and around 300 kt in 2035. The increases are essentially attributable to pyrolysis.
