Borealis is investing over €100 million at its Burghausen site

The funds is said to be used to build a new plant for the production of recyclable polymer foam.

Polyolefin group Borealis has announced plans to expand production capacity for its Daploy™ High Melt Strength Polypropylene (HMS PP) polymer foam solution at its Burghausen site in Germany. According to Borealis, the investment is in response to growing global demand for recyclable, high-performance foam solutions. The new plant is scheduled to come online in the second half of 2026 and will triple Borealis' supply capacity for fully recyclable HMS PP. This will enable the transition to more circular solutions and recyclable materials for customers in the consumer goods, automotive, and construction industries, according to the company. According to the information provided, the material was developed at the Borealis Innovation Headquarters in Linz, Austria. The product is said to be characterized by exceptional foamability, low weight, and mechanical strength. These properties are said to support material efficiency and help reduce both costs and CO2 emissions. It could be processed into monomaterial solutions that were easy to recycle at the end of their life cycle. Borealis says, it is thus responding to growing demand for reusable and recyclable solutions in numerous industry segments, such as consumer goods, construction, and automotive.
