Silgan Holdings acquires Weener Plastics
The US packaging manufacturer Silgan Holdings Inc. has completed the acquisition of the Dutch closure and dispenser manufacturer Weener Plastics.
This was announced by Silgan (Connecticut, USA) in mid-October. The Weener Plastics Group acquired by Silgan reportedly operates 19 production plants worldwide, primarily in Europe and America, with over 4,000 employees and its own manufacturing technologies. Weener was previously part of the portfolio of the investment company 3i Group (London, UK), which acquired the company in 2015 for around 250 million euros. According to Silgan, the holding company has taken out a loan of 700 million euros to finance the undisclosed purchase price for Weener Plastics and related costs and expenses. The synergies associated with the transaction are expected to increase Silgan's adjusted earnings per share by around ten percent in 2024. Silgan is a provider of rigid plastic packaging solutions for consumer goods products worldwide, with annual net sales of around $6.0 billion in 2023. The company operates a total of 124 manufacturing facilities in North and South America, Europe and Asia for these and other products.
