RIGK and CGR collaborate on the recycling of industrial packaging
A pilot project aims to process industrial packaging into high-quality recycled material.
The take-back system operator RIGK and the Spanish plastics recycler CGR Sustainable Plastic Solutions have announced the launch of a collaboration on a project to recycle industrial packaging. According to the information provided, RIGK will provide a controlled collection and preparation framework through the Pamira agricultural take-back system for plant protection and fertiliser packaging, and the Gebinde-Verwertungsgesellschaft der Mineralölwirtschaft mbH (GVÖ) for lubricant packaging, which is intended to ensure high traceability at source and consistently high input quality. The materials are processed at a mechanical recycling plant operated by GCR in Spain, the statement continues. There, the packaging is sorted, washed and processed into regranulates. According to RIGK, the GCR plants are equipped with state-of-the-art technology that enables precise analysis of the recycled pellets and is designed to ensure that the recovered recyclates meet the requirements for technical applications. Further comprehensive trials are planned in the coming months in collaboration with leading industry players to further validate the results from testing at the GCR plant.
