Packaging Award: Use of recycled materials and monomaterial solutions

Ten plastic solutions are among the 38 winners of the German Packaging Award.

The prize is organised by the German Packaging Institute, which has chosen ten innovative plastic packaging solutions among the 38 winners. The use of recycled material, recyclable barrier solutions, new packaging materials and mono-material solutions were the deciding factors for the 27-member jury, as reported by Kunststoff Information. The awards are to be presented on 27 September at FachPack in Nuremberg.

The prizes are distributed among a total of ten categories, which include digitalisation, sustainability and economic efficiency. For example, the most important category, sustainability, with ten winners, includes "Push Tab", a mono-material blister pack made of PET, which does not require the otherwise common aluminium bottom web. Another winner is the film and packaging manufacturer Schur Flexible from Austria with its shrink film "Vacushrink MEX 55" as a mono-layer instead of the usual multi-layer film. The other winners with plastic solutions are Albéa from France for a tube solution, Linhardt together with the cosmetics group Kao and the recycling company Morssinkhof Plastics for another sustainable tube solution, Werner & Mertz for a spray head with recycled content, Spies Kunststoffe for a material-saving lid with honeycomb structure, Anheuser-Busch for a returnable beverage crate with 90 per cent recycled content, Polifilm Extrusion for a self-laminating PE film and Ivoclar Vivadent from Liechtenstein for an application system in the dental sector.
