OMV and the ADNOC subsidiary XRG have successfully completed the transactions to establish Borouge International.
According to a joint statement by OMV and XRG, the new company is formed through the merger of Borouge Plc and Borealis, as well as the acquisition of NOVA Chemicals, and positions itself as a global supplier of polyolefins. Borouge International reportedly has a production capacity of around 13.6 million tonnes per year, making it the fourth-largest producer of polyolefin plastics, and operates integrated manufacturing sites across several continents. The group’s headquarters are in Vienna, Austria. The company combines the technological and operational strengths of the participating companies and covers a broad range of applications, including energy, mobility, packaging, healthcare, as well as applications in the fields of electronics and AI infrastructure, the statement continues. Borouge International is owned equally by OMV and XRG, each holding a 50 per cent stake. Both partners aim to further develop the platform in the long term and unlock additional synergies. A simplification of the group structure is planned for the medium term.
