New CEO at Borealis

Thomas Gangl is to take the helm at the polyolefin and basic chemicals producer on 1 April 2021.

Thomas Gangl is currently a member of the board of OMV AG, the new majority shareholder of Vienna-based Borealis. On 1 April 2021, he is now to become the new CEO of Borealis following a decision by the supervisory board, replacing Alfred Stern. Stern is then to become a board member at OMV for the Chemicals & Materials division. During his time as CEO of Borealis, Stern successfully led the group's transformation from a producer of polyolefins to a leading provider of advanced and recycling-oriented polyolefin solutions and the European market leader in the field of mechanical recycling of plastics, the company said. With Gangl, an excellent manager and expert from within the company has now been won for the management of Borealis, emphasises Rainer Seele, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Borealis AG and CEO of OMV. Gangl had, among other things, established chemical recycling in the OMV Group and thus laid the foundation for a future circular economy.
