LyondellBassell: New management at the Wesseling-Knapsack site

Dr Daniel Koch will in future manage the chemical company's largest European site.
Dr Daniel Koch will manage the day-to-day operations of LyondellBasell (LYB) in Wesseling-Knapsack and is tasked with driving forward the sustainable restructuring. Koch, who holds a doctorate in chemistry, will succeed Tassilo Bader, who retired in 2024. Stephan Ständer will return to his previous position as Head of Operations Polymers Wesseling, after having taken over the management of the plants in the meantime. Daniel Koch most recently managed the European sites of Covestro's Performance Materials (PM) business unit. Koch says: ‘The main reasons for my decision are the forward-looking projects at the Wesseling-Knapsack site, with which LyondellBasell is taking an important step towards a circular economy.’ In September 2024, LYB laid the foundation stone in Wesseling for the first large-scale chemical recycling plant, in which LYB's own MoReTec technology is to be used. The construction of an integrated recycling and processing centre for mixed plastics is planned in Knapsack
According to the information provided, 1,900 people work in Wesseling and Knapsack, including 180 apprentices. Among other things, the two plants produce and market two million tonnes of recycled and renewable polymers annually.
