LyondellBasell receives German Chemistry Prize for the first time

The chemical group's polyolefins division has been awarded the VAA's German Chemistry Prize for the first time.

The award ceremony by the Association of Employed Academics and Executives in the Chemical Industry (VAA) took place at the LyondellBasell Industries Polyolefine GmbH site in Wesseling near Cologne. There, the 1st VAA Chairwoman Dr. Birgit Schwab presented the German Chemical Award to the Wesseling/Knapsack site manager at Lyondellbasell, Tassilo Bader. The decision was an easy one for the VAA jury this year, explained Birgit Schwab: "This year's VAA survey confirms LyondellBasell's successful rise since 2013." Since then, there has been a continuous upward trend, particularly dynamic since 2021. Schwab referred to the demonstrably good mood, especially among the company's young employees. This is an example of how good HR work works: "This is rewarded by the specialists and managers," said Birgit Schwab. Birgit Schwab emphasized the company's outstanding ranking in the additional "Sustainable Leadership" assessment as particularly noteworthy: "LyondellBasell deals strategically with this topic, it focuses on the careful use of material resources and is committed to sustainability in terms of time and money."

LyondellBasell's Wesseling/Knapsack site manager Tassilo Bader emphasized in his acceptance speech: "We are not waiting for the future - we are doing everything we can to shape it. The enormous investments in innovative technologies, circular economy and CO2 reduction as well as in increasing our workforce show that the transformation at Lyondellbasell is in full swing. We are all highly motivated to actively shape the necessary change at a rapid pace, especially in these difficult times. We are very proud of the many positive developments at Lyondellbasell and at our site. The VAA has been awarding the chemistry prize since 2008. The decision is based on the VAA management survey, which is conducted annually among 7,000 specialists and managers from the 23 largest chemical and pharmaceutical companies in Germany.
