LyondellBasell: Green light for pyrolysis plant in Wesseling
According to Euwid, the first partial permit for the construction of the pyrolysis plant has been granted.
According to the specialist service, this is evident from documents published on 19 August on the portal for environmental impact assessments of the federal states (UVP). The foundation stone for the plant was laid in September 2024 in the presence of the then German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). Commissioning is still planned for 2026, as the chemical company confirmed to Euwid upon request. The plant will use the company's own MoReTec technology to produce up to 30,000 tonnes of pyrolysis oil and pyrolysis gas from processed mixed plastic waste, which will then be used to manufacture new plastics. This is stated in the approval documents. Source One Plastics GmbH, a joint venture between 23 Oaks Investments and LyondellBasell, is to ensure the supply of the necessary waste.
