Hot topics at interpack 2023

Circular economy, resource conservation, digital technologies and product safety are the four topics that will be in the spotlight in Düsseldorf from May 4 to 10.

interpack is the international industry's central meeting place for processes and machinery related to the packaging of food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, consumer and industrial goods, confectionery and baked goods, as well as for packaging materials, packaging supplies and packaging production. The triennial event was last cancelled in 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic. On May 4, 2023, Messe Düsseldorf will now open its doors for this year's world's leading trade fair for the processing and packaging industry, which is reportedly the only trade fair that covers the entire value chain. According to the organizers, numerous innovations for all user sectors will be on display. According to interpack Director Thomas Dohse, visitors can look forward to numerous premieres in the 18 fully booked exhibition halls. A total of over 2,700 exhibitors from more than 60 countries are taking part, over 1,000 from the packaging sector alone. According to Messe Düsseldorf, the increasing digitalization of the industry is reflected in the packaging sector in innovations such as digital labels, smart packaging or packaging with QR codes. In the case of plastic packaging, which plays a key role above all in product safety and shelf life, visitors can expect to see new developments in the direction of a circular economy, such as recyclable films, monomaterial solutions, packaging with recyclates or reusable packaging. In addition, sustainable processing and packaging solutions as well as digital services that help to make production processes efficient and sustainable will be presented on the top topic of circular economy. The focus will be, for example, on reducing the CO2 footprint of packaging throughout the value chain, improving energy efficiency or the increasing importance of reusable materials, which should help the industry to make optimum use of resources. The exhibition program will be complemented by numerous specials, including the "Spotlight talks & trends" lecture forum with seven theme days, several awards ceremonies for packaging innovations such as the "PackTheFuture Award" presented by the IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen and its French partner ELIPSO, and the "SAVE FOOD" initiative, which will present new approaches in the fight against global food loss and waste on a "highlight route".
