G7: Germany presents presidential program

The first of five fields of action in the program is "a sustainable planet" with implications for the circular economy.

Since January 1, Germany has held the presidency of the G7 and published its political priorities in the presidency program. During the German presidency, progress is to be made in the "interlinked" fields of action: a sustainable planet, economic stability and transformation, healthy living, investing in a better future and strong coexistence. Beyond a commitment to protecting the climate, environment and biodiversity and to accelerating the global energy transition, and the impetus to establish an open, cooperative "climate club," the first field of action also calls for strengthening G7 activities in the area of resource efficiency and circular economy as a contribution to achieving climate protection goals and preserving biodiversity. To this end, an improvement in chemicals management to reduce global pollution from chemicals is also listed. Measures against marine pollution shall be further developed to protect marine biodiversity. A joint meeting with separate working sessions of climate and energy ministers and environment ministers to prepare for the G7 summit of heads of state and government at Schloss Elmau on June 26-28, 2022, is scheduled for May 25-27 in Berlin.
