Forum Rezyklat publishes accompanying letter to the minimum standard for recyclability
The explanations of the ZSVR's minimum standard are intended to help determine whether packaging is recyclable or not.
On 29 August 2024, the Stiftung Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (ZSVR) published the currently valid version of the minimum standard for determining the recyclability of packaging subject to system participation. This regulates the minimum criteria that packaging in Germany must meet in order to be classified as recyclable. The requirements are intended to promote the development of sustainable packaging solutions in line with a functioning circular economy.
The explanatory accompanying letter from Forum Rezyklat is intended to make it easier for packaging manufacturers and distributors to uniformly assess the recyclability of packaging subject to system participation. According to the Recyclate Forum, the accompanying letter combines information contained in various places in the ZSVR's minimum standard, thus providing an overview of the relevant content. It also includes decision trees for classifying packaging into the appropriate material group and a matrix for classifying packaging into the categories “recyclable”, “requires further testing” or “not recyclable”.
