Covestro: Recycling of plastics from old headlights

Covestro is intensifying its collaboration with Ausell to advance the recycling of used plastics from the automotive industry.

As the German plastics manufacturer Covestro announces, it wants to expand its collaboration with the Chinese plastics recycler Ausell. The expanded cooperation is intended to accelerate the recycling of plastics from end-of-life vehicles and thus contribute to a circular economy in the automotive industry. To this end, used plastic parts from cars are to be processed into materials for new automotive components. So far, the two companies reportedly have been working together on the recycling of polycarbonate water tanks. As part of the expanded collaboration, Ausell is to supply recycled polycarbonates from discarded automotive headlamps, which Covestro will then process into high-quality PCR materials for automotive applications. Lily Wang, Global Head of the Engineering Plastics Business Unit at Covestro, explains: “We are pleased to deepen our partnership with Ausell. We are working closely with partners along our value chains to accelerate the circular transformation of the automotive industry. Together, we are committed to developing sustainable solutions that pave the way to a circular and climate-neutral future.”
