Changes in the BASF Board of Executive Directors

The Supervisory Board of BASF, Ludwigshafen, Germany, has appointed Dr Melanie Maas-Brunner as a member of the Board of Executive Directors with effect from February 1, 2021. Maas-Brunner has been with the Group since 1997 and has headed the Nutrition & Health division there since 2017. On 1 February 2021, she will also take over the position of Chief Technology Officer from Dr Martin Brudermüller, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF, as well as responsibility for the three research divisions Advanced Materials & Systems Research, Bioscience Research, Process Research & Chemical Engineering and BASF New Business.

With Melanie Maas-Brunner, a very experienced chemist and strong leader has been appointed to the Board of Executive Directors, emphasises Supervisory Board Chairman Dr. Kurt Bock. At the same time, Bock thanks long-time Board member Wayne T. Smith for his achievements. According to BASF, Smith will leave the Board of Executive Directors, which he has been a member of since 2012, on 31 May 2021. He is currently still responsible for the Monomers, Performance Materials, Petrochemicals, Intermediates, Process Research & Chemical Engineering and North America divisions. He said his duties would be taken over by board member Michael Heinz after a transition period on June 1, 2021, while Maas-Brunner would then take over from Heinz the additional responsibilities in the European Site & Verbund Management, Global Engineering Services and Corporate Environmental Protection, Health & Safety divisions, as well as the role as BASF's labor director.
