bvse International Conference on Recycling of Plastics 2025 in Dresden

According to bvse, the event will focus on strategies for sustainable plastics recycling under difficult conditions.
The 27th International Conference on Recycling of Plastics, organised by the bvse Federal Association for Secondary Raw Materials and Waste Disposal, opened in Dresden with a clear message to politicians. Herbert Snell, Vice President of the bvse, welcomed the approximately 300 participants with the following words: ‘Plastics recycling: out of the crisis and into the future – this motto is also a clear call to action. We will not only analyse the causes, but above all work together to shape the path to a sustainable circular economy. Our industry can and will continue to take responsibility for resource conservation and climate protection.’ Dirk Textor, Chairman of the bvse's Plastics Recycling Association, emphasised the positive signals from the coalition agreement between the CDU/CSU and SPD at the start of the event: ‘There are promising approaches there – for example, on the digitisation of material flows, the pragmatic implementation of the National Circular Economy Strategy (NKWS) and certificate trading for plastic recyclates.’ However, he stressed that it was crucial that the announced reforms were now implemented – otherwise ‘bureaucracy will remain an innovation killer’. A key concern for the industry is the simplification of the approval process. Textor also welcomed the announced investment subsidies. A declining depreciation on capital investments could provide an important stimulus, as could the planned reduction in bureaucracy for small and medium-sized enterprises. ‘Our companies are the backbone of the system. Whether it's collection, sorting or processing – without small and medium-sized enterprises, it doesn't work. What we need is a cultural change in administration: towards cooperation, trust and enabling,’ Textor continued. His clear message at the start of International Conference on Recycling of Plastics in Dresden was: ‘Plastic recycling products are not only important – they are essential for a functioning circular economy. Let's work together to ensure that our industry enters 2026 with courage, drive and a clear goal: to protect resources, stabilise the climate and secure the future.’
