At least 50 percent of the 1.5-litre water bottle of Lidl's own brand "Saskia still" already consisted of recyclate. From mid-May it shall be 100 percent, as the label with the inscription "Bottle made of 100 percent recycled plastic" will show. The recyclables cycle installed by the company itself is part of the "REset Plastic" plastics strategy launched by the Schwarz Group. For this purpose, the bottles returned via the approximately 6,100 Lidl reverse vending machines are sorted by colour, compressed and pressed into bales in the company's own logistics centres. In one of the two recycling plants of the subsidiary Mitteldeutsche Erfrischungsgetränke, bottle preforms are produced, which are then delivered back to the Lidl logistics centres. According to KI, the Rewe supermarket chain has also been offering "Share" mineral water in bottles made of recycled PET since last year. According to the online magazine 360grad.de, other companies such as mineral water suppliers from Austria and Switzerland have announced that they will use bottles made entirely of recycled PET.
