BMBF: Insight into funding programs for the circular economy

The BMBF's funding policy was a focal point at the Berlin Recycling and Secondary Raw Materials Conference.

Circular economy as a sustainable model for society was the focus of this year's Recycling and Raw Materials Conference on March 7-8, 2022. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), which has been funding sustainable technologies developed jointly by researchers from science and industry for many years as part of Germany's raw materials policy, provided insight into current funding programs at the event in Berlin. According to the BMBF, a resource-efficient circular economy has already been the focus of research policy since 2019. With a total of 150 million euros, the BMBF is funding new technologies and services, design concepts and business models for the resource-efficient circular economy. Among the topics discussed at the Berlin Recycling and Secondary Raw Materials Conference were: new design concepts, business models and digital technologies for innovative product cycles; new recycling technologies for plastics; and technologies and methods that use carbon dioxide as a sustainable carbon source.
