BASF plans to acquire shares in the Alsachemie joint venture

BASF and co-owner Domo Chemicals have signed an agreement to this effect.
According to a joint statement, the two companies have agreed on an arrangement that gives BASF the right to acquire Domo Chemicals' 49 percent stake in the joint venture Alsachimie. BASF currently holds 51 percent of the shares in Alsachimie. In accordance with applicable law, the planned transaction is subject to consultation with the relevant social partners of Alsachimie. Only after these consultations have taken place can the two companies conclude a binding purchase agreement. Subject to these consultations, BASF and Domo Chemicals expect the purchase to be completed by mid-2025.
BASF sees the acquisition of Alsachimie as a strategic step to expand its presence at the Chalampé site in France, the European center for the production of polyamide (PA) 6.6 precursors. As the sole owner of Alsachimie, BASF intends to further strengthen its production structure and maximize backward integration of key raw materials in the PA 6.6 value chain. “As an important supplier of polyamide 6.6 precursors, our priority is to ensure a reliable supply in Europe,” said Dr. Stephan Kothrade, member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE. “With the acquisition of our partner Domo Chemicals' shares, we are further strengthening our leading position and long-term commitment to the polyamide 6.6 value chain and paving the way for future growth with our customers in industries such as automotive and textiles.”
According to Yves Bonte, CEO of Domo Chemicals, the intended transaction is in line with Domo Chemicals' strategy of continuing to provide tailor-made polyamide solutions for the core segments of automotive, consumer goods, industrial goods, and electrical and electronics industries. According to the information provided, Alsachimie was founded in February 2020 as a joint venture between BASF and Domo Chemicals. The company is based on the German-French border and produces essential precursors for polyamides.
