PlasticsEurope with new president

Covestro Chairman Dr. Markus Steilemann is the new president of the association of plastics manufacturers in Europe.

The 50-year-old chairman of Covestro is now elected president of PlasticsEurope for a period of three years. He succeeds Javier Constante of Dow Chemicals. Steilemann would like to focus the work of the pan-European association of plastics manufacturers even more on promoting sustainability and in particular the circular economy. The aim is to use used materials and waste as resources for new products, says Steilemann. Under no circumstances should they continue to be released into the environment in an uncontrolled manner. "In addition, plastics must be used as a particularly sustainable material in as many areas as possible. In this way, our industry can and wants to help advance Europe on the road to sustainability," Steilemann continues. In addition to his new office as President of PlasticsEurope, Steilemann has recently also become Vice President of the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI). He is also a member of the executive committee of Cefic, the European chemical umbrella organization, and chairman of SusChem, the European technology platform for sustainable chemistry.
