ERDE collects 40 percent more agricultural film

In 2019, ERDE was able to increase the recycling volume by 40 percent compared to the previous year.

In the sixth year of its existence, the ERDE initiative has, according to its own information, been able to further expand its cooperation with farmers, collection points and film manufacturers, and in 2019 recycled for the first time, more than 20,500 tonnes of used agricultural film. This were according to ERDE over 40 percent more than in the previous year. More than 450 stationary collection points and around 1,200 mobile collections would have ensured this.

In 2019, the increased collection volume would have led to greenhouse gas savings of 28,216 tonnes of CO2 equivalent. This would correspond to a quantity of carbon dioxide that binds around two million trees every year.

ERDE Recycling is a solution for the take-back and recycling of used agricultural film, jointly supported by film manufacturers in the IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen and RIGK. It offers farmers and contractors a nationwide return possibility for their used agricultural plastics. According to the initiative, in addition to silage and stretch film, bale nets are now also regularly integrated into the take-back system. The collection of asparagus foil is to begin this year with two earth pilot projects.
