Significantly more registrations at ZSVR

According to Euwid, significantly more companies are registering packaging in the manufacturers' register, with online retailers in particular having joined the ranks.

Nearly 298,000 manufacturers and distributors, 70 percent of them (213,700) from Germany, were registered by the Central Packaging Register Office (ZSVR) in mid-April 2022. According to ZSVR executive Gunda Rachut, around 35,000 companies have newly registered in the register in recent months, including numerous Chinese companies (nearly 19,000). The reason for the sharp increase is probably new legal regulations: According to the amendment to the Packaging Act, operators of e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Ebay or the mail order company Otto must provide proof of registration and system participation from all retailers on their platforms from July 2022 at the latest. Without the proof, online retailers will no longer be allowed to sell their products via the platforms. According to the Packaging Act (VerpackG), all companies that put packaged goods into circulation, whether they are sales, repackaging, shipping, transport, reusable, disposable or industrial packaging, must register in the LUCID packaging register by July of this year. A new registration process is scheduled to start on May 5 for this purpose.
